My Clarksdale neighbor, Super Chikan, came into Hey Joe's for lunch today with his brother. They told me some cool stories about growing up in the country: A discussion about party line phones somehow came up which led into a conversation about respecting your elders. Chikan talked about how, when he was raised, every adult around was every kid's parent with free reigns to break out the whoopin' stick if a kid got out of line. One story in particular he told, was about a time he tried to steal a peach out of a peach tree. He went running out of there but got caught. He received two whoopins that day; one from the person he stole from and one from his mother when he got home. They always got two whoopins, not just one.
Also, he loved his bacon cheeseburger. "Must be the egg," he said.
